Frequently asked questions

What is Locked Out?
Locked Out is your secret weapon for navigating restaurants without the awkward "excuse me, what's the bathroom code?" moment. It's a free, community-powered app where real people share bathroom codes and WiFi passwords so you never have to ask again.
Is Locked Out free?
Completely free, forever. No paywalls, no premium tier, no "unlock for $4.99." The whole point is making this information available to everyone who needs it. The site is supported by ads and that's it.
Are the codes actually accurate?
Way more accurate than guessing. Every code is submitted by a real person who was physically there, then ranked by community votes. The more upvotes a code has, the more likely it still works. Outdated codes get downvoted into oblivion automatically.
How does the confidence score work?
Every submission starts neutral. When people upvote a code that worked for them, the score climbs. When people downvote a code that didn't, the score tanks. The highest scoring code rises to the top of the page so you see the most likely-to-work option first. Recently submitted codes also get a small boost, since fresh data tends to beat year-old data.
How do I submit a code?
Sign in with Google, find the restaurant, hit Submit. Takes about 10 seconds. You earn reputation every time someone upvotes your code, and the best contributors make it onto the leaderboard.
Why do I have to sign in to submit?
Sign-in keeps the database honest. If anyone could submit anonymously, the codes would be flooded with garbage in about an hour. Linking submissions to real accounts means people stand behind what they share, and we can stop bad actors when they show up. Google sign-in is the one-click option almost everyone already has.
Do I need an account to see codes?
Nope. Just search and go. You only need an account if you want to submit codes or vote. We keep it frictionless on purpose, because the goal is to help you fast.
What's the leaderboard?
It's where the top contributors get their flowers. Every upvote your submissions earn adds to your reputation. Downvotes cost you a little. The people with the most reputation appear on the leaderboard. Friendly competition that keeps people contributing high quality codes instead of random guesses.
Do you track my location?
Only when you tap "Use my location" to find places nearby. Your coordinates are sent to our server one time to look up restaurants in your area, and they are not stored. We don't run any background tracking, we don't share your location with anyone, and we don't build a profile of where you've been.
What if someone submits a fake or troll code?
It gets downvoted into the basement within hours. The community is quick to flag stuff that doesn't work. Codes with very negative scores get hidden, and accounts that consistently submit garbage get banned. The whole system is designed so bad data sinks fast and good data floats to the top.
What if the code doesn't work?
Codes change sometimes. Hit downvote, ask the staff, then submit the new one. You just saved the next person the trouble. That's the whole point.
Why should I install it as an app?
Because the moment you actually need a bathroom code is the moment you don't want to fumble through a browser, search for our site, and wait for a page to load. With the app installed, it's one tap from your home screen. It also feels faster and stays out of your way like a real native app.
What cities and countries does this cover?
Anywhere with restaurants on Google Maps, which is basically the whole planet. The database is denser in cities where more people have submitted, so US metros currently have the most codes. The more people use it in your city, the better it gets. If your favorite spot isn't in there yet, you're the person to add it.
Can a restaurant ask to have their code removed?
Yes. If you own or manage a venue and don't want your code listed, email us at hello@lockedout.codes and we'll take it down. We try to be respectful. Locked Out exists to help customers, not cause headaches for businesses.
Why does this even exist?
Because asking strangers for the bathroom code is one of the small daily friction points that nobody should have to deal with in 2026. The information already exists, it's just locked inside individual brains. Locked Out is the shared brain.
